A typical high-barrier spout pouch consists of three to four layers:
1. Outer Layer (PET or OPP): Provides a high-gloss or matte surface suitable for detailed rotogravure printing. It also offers external scratch resistance.
2. Intermediate Barrier Layer (AL Foil, VMPET, or Nylon): Aluminum foil provides a complete barrier against oxygen, light, and moisture. Nylon (PA) provides high puncture resistance, preventing leakage during vibration or drop tests.
3. Inner Sealing Layer (PE or CPP): This food-contact layer provides high seal strength. For retort sterilization (temperatures up to 121°C), specialized Cast Polypropylene (RCPP) is used instead of standard Polyethylene (PE) to withstand thermal stress.
